Undergraduate/ Undeclared Mentorship Program (UUMP) Mentor Position Description

The goal of the U/U Mentorship Program is to better serve incoming Undergraduate/Undeclared students by fostering greater personal connection between new and continuing students. Incoming U/U freshmen who opt to participate will be paired with a student mentor who was previously a U/U student.

The UUMP Mentors must meet the following eligibility requirements:
•    Have a 2.7 cumulative GPA at the time their application is submitted, at the start of their position, and throughout their time as a UUMP Mentor.
•    Commit to the position for the 2022-2023 academic year.

As a UUMP Mentor you will
•    Assist in creating fun, educational, social, and academic activities for UUMP.
•    Provide student’s perspective and share personal experiences with mentees.
•    Direct mentees to relevant campus resources.
•    Make regular contact with mentees.
•    Participate in mentor training sessions.

A successful UUMP Mentor should demonstrate the following skills:
•    Communicate effectively with mentees, peers, and supervisor.
•    Work effectively on a team.
•    Have an understanding of, and experience working with, diverse populations.
•    Have an interest in and awareness of the unique needs of U/U student populations.
•    Be familiar with UCI resources

As a UUMP Mentor, you will be provided with the following opportunities
•    Learn from and Interact with people from diverse cultures, races, ages, genders and socioeconomic backgrounds.
•    Strengthen your teamwork, leadership and communication skills
•    Make yourself a more competitive candidate for scholarships, internships, graduate school, and other future career opportunities.
•    Earn 1.3 units for each quarter during the 2022-2023 Academic Year.
o    Mentors will receive course credit for participation in the program. Mentors will enroll into University Affairs 1A-1B-1C course throughout the 2022-2023 academic year to receive 1.3 units each quarter. This course does not have a scheduled class time and will not conflict with any other classes.
