READMISSION POLICY (as of 9-20-2023)
There are different requirements for readmission to Undergraduate/Undeclared at UCI depending on your academic status at the time of departure from the university.
Readmission Deadline is typically the day prior to the fee deadline for the quarter of intended return.
Students in Good Academic Standing
Students who leave UCI for one term or more while in good academic standing with the university may return without needing to complete any requirements for readmission.
When ready to return, students must submit this U/U readmission checklist/request form prior to the deadline for the desired term of readmission.
Students leaving while on Academic Notice (Early Alert or Academic Recovery status)
Students who leave while on academic notice may return without needing to complete any requirements for readmission.
- Students may take courses while away from UCI in order to progress toward a degree or raise their UCI GPA. Students must earn at least a 2.5 GPA in those courses taken while away from UCI.
- Courses taken through any UC program that would raise the UCI GPA must be completed with at least a 2.0 average in those courses to ensure the UCI GPA improves before return.
- Students who are not in good standing upon return would need to get back into good academic standing or potentially face dismissal.
When ready to return, students must submit this U/U readmission checklist/request form prior to the deadline for the desired term of readmission.
Students who were Dismissed from the University
Students dismissed from UCI must complete the following requirement to be eligible to apply for readmission:
- Complete at 12 units of transferrable coursework at a community college and earn a 2.5 GPA or above. May be completed as a full-time or part-time student.
- Students may additionally take courses through UCI or another UC program. Courses taken through any UC program that would raise the UCI GPA must be completed with at least a 2.0 average in those courses to ensure the UCI GPA improves before return.
- Students who are not in good standing upon return would need to get back into good academic standing or potentially face a second dismissal. Students should make a plan for success with their advisor.
- Students dismissed a second time would not be eligible for readmission as an Undeclared student at UCI.
When ready to return, students must submit this U/U readmission checklist/request form prior to the deadline for the desired term of readmission.
Students who were given the option to withdraw to avoid disqualification by another academic school at UCI
Students given the option to withdraw from UCI must complete the requirements for “Students who were Dismissed from the University” to be eligible to apply for readmission to U/U.
